Rolfing® Structural Integration
Rolfing Structural Integration
Rolfing structural integration is a scientifically-proven form of manual therapy that enhances postural alignment, eases chronic pain, and improves mobility and function by working with fascia.
Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds the entire body – enveloping muscles, organs, bones, and even nerve fibers and blood vessels. Rolfing manual therapy releases restrictions within this fascial network to realign and bring balance to the entire body.
Benefits of Rolfing structural integration may include:
- Relief from chronic aches and pains
- More economical and refined movement patterns
- Enhanced postural alignment
- Increased ease in your body
- Single Rolfing Session: $140
Rolfing Ten-Series
The Rolfing Ten-Series, a hallmark of Rolfing structural integration, is a systematic approach to enhance balance and function within the human body over the course of 10 Rolfing sessions.
Each session focuses on freeing restrictions in a specific region of the body while maintaining a holistic view of the client’s being. In doing so, the tensile relationships within the structure are changed and the body can ease into enhanced postural alignment.
- Rolfing Ten-Series: $1,200
F.A.Q.
Typically, men wear athletic shorts and women wear a sports bra and athletic shorts. Otherwise, dress to your comfort level as that is the most important factor. *You will never be asked to fully undress.*
Sessions last 75 minutes with 50-60 minutes of hands-on manual work and movement education. The remaining time is spent reviewing goals for the session, going through functional assessments, and structural analysis.
Rolfing shouldn’t hurt. However, it can, at times, feel intense. Your practitioner will check in regarding pressure and adjust as needed. Pain does not necessarily equate to good work!
No. While Rolfing can look, at times, like massage therapy, the intention and work is quite different. Massage focuses on the soft tissue of the body, such as muscular tissue, with the intention of helping the body to relax. Chiropractic focuses on alignment of the spine with the goals of freeing nerve impingement through the use of high velocity adjustments. Physical therapy combines manual therapy with therapeutic exercise to address injuries or chronic pain. Meanwhile, Rolfing focuses on changing the structure of the body and allowing it to organize efficiently around your natural center of gravity. We like to imagine massage operating in the paradigm of relaxation, physical therapy and chiropractic operating in the paradigm of correction, and Rolfing operating in the paradigm of transformation- all of which are necessary, each with different intentions.
You will benefit from any number of Rolfing sessions. If you’re uncertain, you can try a Single Rolfing session to get a sense of the work. You can upgrade to the Ten-Series package after your first session and pay the difference in cost.
Generally, a week or two between sessions is recommended. Time between sessions is crucial to allow your nervous system to integrate the work effectively and allow for longer lasting changes. We’ll create a plan based on your goals and availability.
We do not work with insurance carriers. However, you can check if you can receive reimbursement through a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), which will vary from one insurance carrier to another.
